Glossary
Engineered wood
Wood resulting from the assembly of whole timber and glued laminated timber or particle board, which are bound and glued together under pressure1.
Electromagnetic field
An electromagnetic field is a physical entity surrounding a magnetic and electric field. Electromagnetic fields are produced wherever there are electrical currents. Thus, every time you use an appliance, you are exposed to electrical and magnetic fields. The intensity of the electromagnetic field is directly proportional to the intensity of the current and decreases exponentially the farther away it gets from its source. Its intensity is measured in milligauss (mG) in North America and in Tesla (T) or micro tesla (μT) in Europe. Electromagnetic fields are like an invisible cloud that spreads around an appliance that is connected to a power source and operating.

The Canadian Standards Association is a not-for-profit association working in Canada and around the world to develop standards that address real needs, such as enhancing public health and safety.
Copolymer
A polymer (plastic) consisting of molecules containing large numbers of units of two or more chemically different types in irregular sequence1.
Mortar bed / concrete topping
A thin layer of cement or mortar of appropriate composition and finishing used to improve a floor surface1.
Megohmmeter
An instrument for measuring directly, very high electrical resistance in megohms or kilohmes, for the purpose of verifying the quality of a cable’s1.
Multimeter
The combination in a single enclosure of a plurality of instruments or instrument circuits for use in measuring two or more electrical quantities in a circuit. Multimeters are also named according to the various measuring facilities they provide, such as: volt-ammeter, volt-ohm-milliameter, etc.2
Thermal mass
Material (e.g. wall, concrete floor, water) with the ability to store thermal energy and then release it through radiation or convection.
Acoustic membrane
System that reduces the transmission of surrounding sound and impact noise.
Anti-fracture membrane
System intended to protect floor coverings from structural movement.
Scratch coat
Metal or plastic lathing covered with cement- glue.
